In a wrestling match against Rock Ridge, the Varsity team put up a strong fight but lost with 43 points against Rock Ridge’s 76. The team forfeited four weight classes due to injured and sick wrestlers, which caused the team to earn a lower score than was hoped for. Coach Mezzatesta was shocked by the score, which did not reflect the team’s preparation.
“To lose by 33 points says if we had those four guys in lineup, we should have won the entire match.” Mezzatesta said.
Despite the loss, the team had some high moments of performance that evening. When sophomore Adam Broshkevitch pinned a Rock Ridge Wrestler, “that just kind of gave everybody an opportunity to get fired up and kick start the match.” Mezzatesta said. The team prepared for this match by learning counters to moves that Rock Ridge typically uses. Although the team did well in practice using these moves, the counters were less effective during the actual match.
“That night we didn’t perform very well and I know we’re better than that” Coach Mezzatesta said.
