Meet your District 10 House of Representatives candidates

A look at Jennifer Wexton and Hung Cao, two candidates running to represent District 10 in The House

For the Midterm Elections, District 10 sees Jennifer Wexton (D) competing with Hung Cao (R) for one of Virginia’s 11 seats in the House of Representatives.

Wexton described herself as, “Prosecutor, former state Senator and a mom,” and has emphasized criminal justice reform, accessible healthcare, maintaining stable economic conditions and more while running.

As an Assistant for Loudoun County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney, Wexton worked throughout the court system across more than 100 cases. In 2010, with her growing resume, she was selected to serve as both a District Court Substitute Judge and lead the Loudoun County Bar Association as its President.

Later, in 2014, Wexton ran for the state Senate. She won out against John Whitbeck (R) and Joe T. May (I), and was reelected in 2015 for another year in office.

Wexton then went on to run for the House of Representatives back in 2018, beating out Barbara Comstock (R) and flipping District 10 from red to blue in a significant win.

Throughout her time as Congresswoman, Wexton was involved with over 600 pieces of legislation in the House, many of which became laws, including the Expanding Findings for Federal Opioid Research and Treatment Act.

“Voting is the bedrock of our democracy,” Wexton said on Facebook. “I encourage everyone to get out and make your voice heard today.”

Cao served with the US Armed Forces for 25 years, once graduating from the United States Naval Academy. Beginning as a Deep Sea Diver, he moved to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Office before being deployed for active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.

His campaign has centered around limited government control of civic life, including religion, businesses and education. Cao has also emphasized the importance of keeping gun ownership out of the hands of government officials.

Cao’s non-combative work with the Armed Forces has involved budgeting with the Pentagon, coast-to-coast community outreach and numerous worldwide humanitarian trips.

Kabul’s fall in 2021 prompted Cao to return back to the states and run for the House of Representatives.

“Washington has forgotten that it works for the American people and needs a clear reminder, as Ronald Reagan said, that ‘we the people tell the government what to do; it doesn’t tell us,’” Cao’s website says. “Hung believes that Virginia needs a Representative who upholds the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
