Mental Health: Facts and resources

Emma Vann, Media & Opinion Editor

Almost half of adults and one of five children will face a mental disorder during their lifetime.

Some symptoms that indicate that you may need to talk to someone about your mental health are social withdrawal, excessive worrying, extremely high and low moods, long-lasting sadness/irritability or a drastic change in eating and/or sleeping habits.

The first step in overcoming a mental illness is acceptance. You need to understand that you are not alone and cannot control the illness by yourself.

Then, reach out to someone you trust. If necessary, get an official diagnosis from a clinician.

The last step is to get a tailored treatment plan. Treatment, with or without medication, can improve your mental health and help you live a happier life.
