Coronavirus has brought about lots of changes in many people’s lives, but for Senior Jordan Campbell, the pandemic meant a new school in a new state.

Campbell has been enjoying all of her high school career that is until her family moved to her vacation house in Florida for good. She spent most of the summer there after completing her junior year at Loudoun Valley, but as the new school year approached, she decided to stay in Florida and attend IMG Academy. IMG is a sports based academy in Bradenton, Florida that boasts accomplished student athletes and will host the 2020 WNBA season. Campbell has experienced some differences at her new school compared to Valley.

I only have  classes a day. My school day doesn’t start until 1:20  There is a lot more freedom at this school and it’s similar to a college than a high school.”

Growing up in Virginia, Campbell didn’t spend much time in Florida except for vacation. Living there now she has gotten to experience what it’s like living in a different state.

“The people are for the most part similar to home. The drivers are much worse to be honest,” she said.

At Loudoun Valley, Campbell was a core member of the girl’s basketball, cross country, and track teams, and was very active in school and sports. At IMG however, she has been more focused on sports, especially basketball, than ever before.

“Sports are very competitive here,” she said. “We have two practices a day, and our school is really based on our sport. The coaches are very involved with every aspect, not just the basketball part.”

Even though these are some big changes for a senior, her transition has been smooth from one school to another, and she especially enjoys attending school in person, even though the virus has affected her experience.

“We always have masks on,” Campbell said. “It’s somewhat difficult to get to know people outside your sport when they always have masks on.”
