Welcome back to Lilly’s Hot Takes! If you haven’t been here before, my name is Lilly, and I love sharing my controversial opinions. Let’s jump in.
The hot take of the week? Basketball is the best sport to watch.
Fast paced, short, indoors and high energy, basketball is undoubtedly the best sport to watch. Before I go into detail, let’s delve into why any other sport is the worst.
Hockey
Although entertaining when fights break out, it is near impossible to see the puck on your TV screen. If you aren’t going to watch live, might as well not watch at all, or just put on MMA.
Baseball/Softball
Do I keep up with the Nationals? Yes. If it isn’t a close game do I tap out after the 5th inning? Also yes. As a softball player, I get the appeal of the game, but even I can admit, games can be tedious. Baseball is a background game. You put the game on while you are doing homework, cooking dinner, or folding laundry. It’s not exactly “edge of your seat” entertaining.
Football
Maybe I just hate watching football games because I’m a Jets fan (although this is our season, I swear), but they just drag on. Constant stopping and starting, endless commercials and the same repetitive thing, play after play. Games last so long, and if you aren’t in person cheering with a group of fans, then just like baseball, it’s background noise.
Basketball
So, what is the best sport to watch? There is no doubt in my mind: basketball.
Basketball is quick. Up and down the court, stolen possessions, the outcome of the game can change in just one play. Basketball has fans on the edge of their seats the entirety of the game, which for the record, is only 2 hours including commercials, halftime, and time outs. It’s fun, full of energy, and indoors so there’s no sweating, shivering or unpredictable weather.
If you agree or are at least somewhat entertained, you can find a new hot take from me right here, every other Sunday at 10 a.m.
