Governor’s School is a month-long summer educational program where you have the chance to live at a Virginia college such as Radford or Virginia Tech. Applications for summer 2025 dates are available for current rising juniors and seniors. You can choose a specific field of interest to study on a much deeper level than you get the chance to in your regular classes.
Programs offered include Humanities, Medicine and Health Sciences, Agriculture, Visual Performing Arts and more. These programs provide opportunities for nontraditional and hands-on learning through things like laboratory work, field studies and research.
In order to apply to Governor’s School, you will need to provide academic information such as grades, coursework and honors. You will also be required to list extracurriculars or studies you’ve participated in relating to the program you’re applying to. Two adult/teacher recommendations will be required. Additionally, you will need to write two essays, one of which is 250 words and the other is 500.
Admission into Governor’s School is extremely competitive, with only around 8-10% of applicants making it in, which can fluctuate depending on the program applied to. Application deadlines vary across schools, but it is Dec. 10 for Valley.
