Field hockey took home their second in a row Virginia High School League Class 4 state championship on Saturday in Virginia Beach, outscoring Chancellor 3-0 after beating Glouchster 3-2 in the state quarterfinals.
“I think the most exciting part of it all might have been our semi-final game, because we played the team that we played in the championship last year, and went to overtime with, to win our first state championship,” senior Katie Clarke said.
The field hockey team has consistently been one of Valley’s most successful sports teams, sourcing their many accomplishments in their Instagram bio, including regional champs from 2022-2024 and Dulles District and regular season champs also 2022-2024.
Scored goals were from senior Katie Clarke who is committed to the University of Delaware to continue her field hockey career, sophomore Kearney Cunningham and senior Addie Ackam.
In the state quarterfinal game, Clarke scored her 150th goal, a huge milestone. She worried that would be the last goal of her high school career and that she wouldn’t score one in the state final.
“With 17 seconds left in the final, I scored my last high school goal ever, which was a really weird feeling,” Clarke said. “All of us being together for one last time and one last celebration was so exciting.”
