Welcome back to Lilly’s Hot Takes! If you haven’t been here before, my name is Lilly, and I love sharing my controversial opinions. Let’s jump in.
The hot take of the week? I sleep with socks on.
I was going to write about the best way to tie your shoes, or my favorite Disney movie until I realized that apparently sleeping with socks on is rare and “weird,” and I realized that I have to weigh in on this issue.
First of all, there is nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night with cold feet. You can pile on as many blankets as you want, but once your feet are cold there is no warming them up. You can avoid all of that by simply putting on a pair of socks before bed.
Now let me clarify for a second. I am by no means in no way saying that you should get into your bed with the socks you wore all day. That’s gross, please, please, please, (channeling my inner Sabrina Carpenter right now) do not do that. What I am suggesting, however, is that you can put on a nice, fresh, clean pair of socks before you get into bed.
If you’re worried about your feet getting too warm, you can super easily take them off during the night. But once your feet get cold, are you really going to want to get up, find socks and put them on in the middle of the night? I think not.
Speaking of getting up in the middle of the night, socks protect your feet from the cold floor, spilt water or really anything that you don’t want to step in ever, let alone in the middle of the night. Worst case, you may have to switch your socks but that is much better than the alternative.
Also, if you have pets like I do that’s even more of a reason to sleep with socks on. Maybe y’all don’t have animals straight from a horror movie, but the cat that loves me the most gets “playful” and attacks everyone’s feet, especially in the middle of the night when there’s nothing to entertain him. I’ve heard a lot of pet owners, cats specifically, have these issues, so why wouldn’t you put on an extra layer?
For those reasons, I will always sleep with socks on, and I really don’t see why people wouldn’t. Sleeping with socks on ensures that your feet stay warm and protected throughout the night to ensure a great night’s sleep.
If you agree or are at least somewhat entertained, you can find a new hot take from me right here, every other Sunday at 10 a.m.
