After five years of retirement, world champion skier Lindsey Vonn returns to the U.S. Ski Team. Vonn quit skiing in 2019 after damaging her right knee and had no plan to return, until seven months ago. Vonn underwent a knee surgery that has allowed her to continue skiing close to her former glory.
Vonn has been training for months after the surgery and it has now been confirmed that she has returned to the U.S. Ski Team, marking her 20th year as a member.
After Vonn retired in 2019, her former teammate Mikaela Shifferin took the skiing world by storm. In 2023, Shiffrin broke Vonn’s Giant Slalom record of 83 wins and then also surpassed Vonn in World titles with 5 wins.
Shiffrin now has 92 World Cup championship wins and is the most successful female skier of all time. With the return of Lindsey Vonn, the question now is will Vonn be able to regain her title?
The 2026 winter olympics will be Feb. 6-26 and held in Milan.
