The Academies of Loudoun is hosting the Skilled Trades Fair on Jan. 16 from 6 – 8 p.m. At this fair, students in grades 9 – 12 will have the opportunity to network with professionals in over 30 attending businesses in the fields of culinary arts, environmental plant science/landscape architecture, building construction, masonry, HVAC, auto services, electrical and auto collision repair.
Additionally, there will be a discussion panel of professionals in those industries, talking about career opportunities onwards from high school. Students will be able to talk with these professionals about potential job and internship opportunities, whether it’s during high school or beyond.
The fair will also be a great opportunity for students in 9 – 11th grades looking to apply to the Academies’ MATA (Monroe Advanced Technical Academy) program, which enlists in-depth CTE learning opportunities in a specific field of student’s choice such as masonry or HVAC. Students can apply onsite for the Academies at this event.
Senior Evelyn McCann took the one-year Administration of Justice course through MATA.
“I am not exactly sure what I want to do in my future,” McCann said. “And I took this course because it sort of aligned with what I had been thinking: international relations, security, that type of thing. It helped me figure out what I want to major in in college and what I want to do and what I don’t want to do, more importantly.”
