On the morning of Dec. 19, the Global Ambassadors Club held a brief interest meeting. While in its second year, the club serves to inform and recruit students on the various student exchange opportunities offered at Valley.
The club’s founder and sponsor, social science teacher Kent Bailey, informed members present at the meeting about the Loudoun International Summit. The summit is a county-wide program where six Loudoun high schools, Valley included, host international students.
“This will be the second year we have hosted students for the Loudoun International Summit post-COVID,” Bailey said.
Bailey’s passion for the offered exchange programs and the various exposure to other cultures it offers to hosting students propelled him to create Global Ambassadors.
“This club is Mr. Bailey’s child,” said club member Izabelle Hortega.
Aside from simply getting students to host, Global Ambassadors aims to provide host families and students with opportunities for cultural exchange and to connect students from all over the world.
“Global Ambassadors seeks to emphasize the fact that we are all people who can differ greatly from our country’s government,” Hortega said.
This club, operating on A-rotations in room 314, is free of an application process when joining. Global Ambassadors simply seeks out students interested in exploring and participating in cultural exchange.
“If you are interested in different cultures and want to help with the exchange program beyond hosting, Global Ambassadors would be great for you,” Hortega said.
So far this year, meetings have focused on the Loudoun International Summit trip in March and recruiting host families. Due to the nature of the club, meetings may occur outside of Viking Time to address additional tasks needed to ensure successful exchange programs.
