Animals, but more specifically pets, do a lot of the same things that humans do. We both eat, drink, sleep and dream. However, we do that differently than our pets, specifically in what we dream about, how much and when we sleep, and why we sleep.
An average dog sleeps about 12 hours, like us, while cats sleep about 16-18 hours.
Similar to what some people dream about, pets tend to dream about things they experience in their day to day lives, such as interacting with their owners, eating their food, or playing with their toys. Like people, they can also have occasional nightmares. They don’t have the typical imaginations like we do, so its nightmare would be about an uncomfortable or traumatic experience it has gone through, rather than something fantastical.
Animal’s sleep amount depends on certain factors like age, diet and activity level. An older pet will typically sleep more than a younger one, and a pet’s diet and eating time may also impact its sleep routine. Active pets tend to sleep more and have improved sleep patterns, and daily physical activity helps to ensure pets have restful and regular sleep.
Pets sleep just like we do, but the details about it differ from us drastically.
