On Tuesday Feb 4 at 7 p.m., the National Honors Society (NHS) will be holding an induction of new members in the auditorium.
NHS is a highly respected organization that focuses on four pillars: scholarship, leadership, character and service.
During the ceremony, students will take the membership pledge and receive their certificate to become a member.
However, not just anyone can join the NHS. There are various qualifications that must be met, including being either a junior or senior.
Inductees must have at least a 3.5 GPA and be able to show how they represent each of the four pillars.
Heidi Trude, NHS advisor, explains what the process looks like, and when applications open.
“They apply during the fall of their junior year, seniors can also apply.” Trude said. “So it’s done in the fall, then the induction usually occurs in January, but this year it got moved to February because of the snow and ice.”
In the NHS, students will participate in many forms of community service. Just some of the things they’ve organized are food drives, animal shelter campaigns, cancer drives, Safenight Halloween and so much more.
Trude says she thinks it’s an amazing thing for the students to be a part of.
“It’s a great opportunity for students to be able to help our community and learn incredible leadership skills,” Trude said.
