Remember that series in middle school that consumed your life? It was one of those cornerstone series, the kind that hones and enhances your love for the reader’s life. Yes, we’ve all been held in that grip, even the non-readers.
The original middle school series never left us, but we’ve moved on from then. We’ve gone into high school and met some new series that preoccupied our minds, and learned some bigger words. Maybe you feel embarrassed that you even liked those books in the first place.
However, who says we have to let them go?
It may be beneficial to take a trip back to your middle school taste in books. Or if you’re just looking for some enjoyable quick reads, try out some middle grade fiction.
So, here I have gathered a few middle grade series for you to revisit, or visit for the first time.
Wings of Fire – Tui T. Sutherland
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reread this. It’s a comfort series, and a great one at that. It takes place in a large world full of dragons who are developed and at war. There are many timelines that all connect together, with two main series, “The Dragonet Prophecy” and “The Jade Mountain Prophecy,” but multiple other books that connect such as “Darkstalker” and “Dragonslayer.” There is not a single disappointing or boring book in the series.
The main series are all complete, but currently, there are graphic novels being published of the original books.
I would recommend listening to the audiobooks. The narrator, Shannon McManus, is one of the best storytellers I have ever come across.
The cast of characters is vast and all I can say is 10/10, would recommend.
Spy School – Stuart Gibbs
Don’t let the middle grade status fool you, the mysteries in this hilarious series are still fun and surprising. It follows a boy named Benjamin Ripley who’s swept away to a special school… for spies. This book has helicopters, explosives, moles, secret missions, and an underestimated kid who proves everyone wrong.
These books are a blast, so don’t overlook them.
Keeper of the Lost Cities – Shannon Messenger
This is a long series, with long books, but it’s worth it. It’s a classic “guess what you’re magic” story, but this time Sophie Foster finds out she’s an elf. Except it’s with a charmingly extensive magic system, and a fast-moving plot. Elves, secret societies, magical creatures and a powerful FMC is what this series has to offer.
It features amazing characters that you will immediately fall in love with. And don’t worry, of course there are many ships (some better than others), and relationships to root for.
Currently, the books are still coming out, with the latest release being book 9.5 (I know, it’s a whole thing).
This series is a delightful adventure you’re sure to love.
There you have it, a few middle grade series to dive into. Don’t forget your nostalgia when sitting down with these endearing series. Happy Reading!
