Sunday night, the 2025 Grammys proved to be one to be remembered for the women in the music industry. After a powerful year in music, the nominations were tough competition, from Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” and Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department.”
However, something I noticed starkly was the prominence of young female artists. Women took home the majority of the televised awards. It was a moment of triumph for women in the usually male dominated industry.
Nominations for the Best Vocal Pop Album category was a prime example of this. It featured Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Ariana Grande. Although some of these women inevitably lost, the fact that the category was filled with these talented artists clearly stated the rise of young female artists.
As a teenage girl myself, seeing women, some not much older than me, winning profoundly and dressing proudly is the empowerment that I need. Women like Doechii and Chappel Roan worked intensely and determinedly to get where they are today.
It truly is proof that women can dominate in male fields, and as this Grammy cycle demonstrates, maybe even do it better.
