The results of the 2025 grammys have been stirring up major controversies among fans.
Even if you watched it or not, there’s a good chance you’ve heard something about it. Whether it was about awards, or even before the show on the red carpet.
“I saw Kanye West’s wife’s outfit, or really non-existent outfit, but that was about it,” Lauren Paquette, a history teacher at Valley, said.
The controversy that would continue throughout the show began on the red carpet when Kanye West and his wife Bianca Censori arrived. After arriving uninvited and at the last minute, Censori dropped her coat to reveal her nude look, a completely see-through dress.
People became so upset about this that they even wanted Censori arrested for indecent public behavior. However, because it was a private event and no one present made a formal complaint, she won’t be facing charges.
When the video of her dropping the coat aired, people began to claim that West forced her to wear this and it was mainly a publicity stunt to gain attention.
Even with this, most of the controversy came when the awards were given, majority coming from Beyonce’s multiple wins with her album “Cowboy Carter”.
“For Album of the Year, I definitely did not think that Cowboy Carter should have gotten it. I felt like Billie Eilish or Sabrina Carpenter or Taylor Swift should have gotten it,” sophomore Charlotte Reason said.
Many people felt that “Cowboy Carter” did not deserve to win up against audience favorites like “Short and Sweet” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Hit Me Hard and Soft” by Billie Eilish, and more from artists such as Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift and Charli XCX.
“I’m not a big Billie Eilish fan, and even I was listening to some of the songs on the album, and I think that a lot of people really like that album,” senior Bailey Doherty said. “And same with Sabrina Carpenter. Hers was like, number one on the chart for a really long time.”
“I think Billie Elish should’ve won something, and I think Taylor Swift should’ve won something,” junior Delaney Weir said.
Many people also agree that Swift’s album “The Tortured Poets Department” deserved more recognition and a win.
“I really thought she [Swift] should have at least won one Grammy, because ‘Fortnight’ should have won the music video,” Reason said. “I really felt that was a great music video and she deserved it.”
Even through all this, the one thing people can agree on is that the musical performances did not disappoint. However, there were many artists people were hoping to see perform but didn’t.
“I wanted to see Taylor Swift perform or, I know Olivia Rodrigo had performed earlier on” Reason said. “I wish she would have done that too.”
Many people also wanted to see Beyoncé perform, especially after winning in so many categories.
“Beyoncé should have proved herself,” sophomore Abigail Nicholson said. “She should have proved that she actually came out with more songs.”
However, even without them, the lineup was filled with other extremely talented artists including performances from Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Elish, Charli XCX, Benson Boone, Shakira, John Legend, Stevie Wonder and even a surprise performance from The Weekend after boycotting the Grammys for years.
“I liked the Benson Boone one, just because he was super energetic and active on the stage,” Doherty said. “I think he did a good job of pulling in the crowd. And then I liked Sabrina Carpenter’s quick take on ‘Espresso’ in jazz form. I thought that was just cool to see.”
