The Met Gala, an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s costume institute, was held on Monday and there were, as always, a wonderful array of delightful and disgusting outfits. The Met is an invite-only event, run by Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, with individual tickets priced at $75,000.
So naturally, it is largely a celebrity-only event, where the most popular actors, musicians and other industry professionals strut their stuff down the Met’s carpet and subject themselves to intense scrutiny year after year.
Each year, the Gala’s dress code has a theme. This year it was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” aimed to celebrate Black men’s influence on fashion and the history of Black dandyism.
So because this is such a huge event for musicians worldwide, I thought I would rank my top 5 outfits of the night. Some will be musicians, but a couple actors made their way onto my ranking. I am by no means any kind of fashion designer or connoisseur, so these rankings are unserious and purely based on vibes.

Actor Damson Idris’ entire outfit was designed by Tommy Hilfiger. Idris arrived at the Met in an APXG car from the film “F1” he’s
starring in, set to be released this summer, with Formula 1 racing being the inspiration behind his outfit.
Featuring one of the more dramatic reveals of the night, a white racing suit was torn in half off Idris, revealing his supremely tailored red and gold suit underneath. He also held a Swaroski studded racing helmet, adding onto the F1 theme of the outfit.
While the actual suit is pretty simple, it’s a delightful simple. The rich red is gorgeous on his skin tone, and the dramatic reveal tied to his current acting work made the look not just an outfit, but an experience.
My favorite part of the look, though, has to be the jewelry. I was obsessed with the green and silver jewelry, particularly the brooch even before I discovered the story behind it. All the jewelry was from Idris’ newly launched jewelry chain, DIDRIS, which pays homage to his Nigerian heritage and late mother.

Joey King

I certainly didn’t expect to absolutely love actress Joey King’s Met Gala look. Sadly, she has sported some pretty unfortunate looks in the past. I cringe every time I see this one very specific GlamBot from the Grammy’s featuring a strange rainbow tutu.
So, I was delighted to see King leave behind her childish looks and posing for a poised, unique and stunning suit for the Met Gala. In a green Miu Miu suit adorned with stunning crystallike trinkets across the fabric, King’s colorful clash of an outfit stood out amid a crowd of black and white.
I usually don’t like intense mixtures of colors and patterns — I’m very basic, I admit it — but King perfectly balances a colorful mix of green, mustard yellow and checkered, on top of the crystal adornments spread throughout.
Additionally, her hair and makeup looks amazing with this look. While simple, the understated wave and smokey eye allowed the look to shine while still making her look absolutely beautiful. It’s wonderful to see a young actress like Joey King grow into her style and stand confident on a carpet like the Met Gala’s.

While singer Lana Del Rey adopted a more subtle take on the theme, she stuck with it as always, with her own elegant spin. Rey wore a Valentino design from the Spring 2025 runway, unlike many attendees who sport custom-made outfits.
The top of the dress is black velvet, the bottom brown satin and the back features lace with a bow sprouting theatrical black feathers. Very Lana Del Rey.
As always, her simple elegance only adds to her commanding presence. Her hair pinned up in simple ringlets and face dusted with simple makeup, Rey affirms that less can be more in the most beautiful manner.
What’s more, if you look close you can see a small gold alligator pin in her hair. This is a nod to her new husband, Jeremy Dufrene, who is an alligator tour guide in Louisiana. The pin is a beautiful homage to Rey’s new marriage, and a funny one at that.

I never thought I would put a man who wore a black and white suit in a list of my favorite Met Gala outfits, but here we are. ASAP Rocky managed to take a common cliche (men wearing boring suits to red carpet events) and made it his own unique idea, without having to adopt a bold color or reveal.
Rocky’s look was the ultimate flex: a custom-made look from his own creative agency, AWGE. Inspired by the “teenage jacket” Marmots Rocky saw growing up in Harlem, the look features a sportswear-minded double-breasted parka. While it is a very technical parka, the look is styled and appears like a tuxedo.
The rapper also donned Oxford shoes made with his creative agency in collaboration with Christian Louboutin and a studded umbrella with a revolver handle. The umbrella has to be my favorite part of the look. It adds a lot of personality and pizazz to a look that otherwise might not catch someone’s eye.
ASAP Rocky took a simple style and made it into his own, paying homage to growing up in Harlem, sporting his own creative agency’s work and of course carrying his dual revolver/umbrella.

The Blackpink member wore a Chanel off-the-shoulder black satin jumpsuit adorned with strings of pearls, a silk flower on the chest, topped off with a gorgeous black satin overskirt. Where Lana Del Rey did simple elegance well, Jennie managed to take it to the next level.
My favorite part of the look, however, is the simple two-tone Chanel hat Jennie dons to top off the already stunning outfit. The hat brings an aura of mystique and sophistication to the look, one that fits Jennie extremely well.
A beautifully personal take on the theme, Jennie and Chanel took a classic male suit silhouette and marvelously feminized it, while still maintaining a sort of androgynous feel that works so well on Jennie.
While certainly not the flashiest look of the night, something about Jennie’s commanding elegance and sophistication seals this Chanel jumpsuit in my top spot.
Well there you have it. They might not all have been musicians in kind with my blog, but they certainly all had fantastic, on-theme outfits for the 2025 Met Gala.
