We’re multiple weeks into the school year, and, as they always do, clubs have returned. So far the school has had two club rotations: A and B clubs. Here is an introduction to what clubs are, and what to expect for the C day rotation.
For those who don’t know or participate, clubs are an optional activity that students can participate in during Viking Time every Friday. Typically, students meet in groups and talk about or participate in different fields of interest, from yoga to tuba to engineering.
These clubs take place in a variety of different classrooms around the school and will always have a sponsor watching over the club. These sponsors are teachers who agree to lend their rooms to these groups of students. With that being said, clubs are student-led and will usually have one or more students taking charge of the club. Not all clubs meet during Viking Time though. Certain ones, like the debate team and green team meet at various different times.
Each Friday has a designation of being an A, B or C rotation. This designation determines what kind of clubs will be active on that day. So, what kind of clubs will be active during C rotation? Well, for students who enjoy talking about politics, the Young Conservatives and Young Democrats clubs may be for them. If they would prefer a fun time with friends, maybe the gaming, dungeons and dragons or chess clubs would be better depending on what exactly they would like to do. The Black Student Union and Hispanic Student Association also meet, as well as the Future Health Professionals and Personal Finance clubs. These are only half of the groups meeting on C rotation, and on Friday, teachers can show students a full list of all clubs active on those days. If none of the clubs are of interest to students, they can actually make their own if they find a willing sponsor.
Clubs are entirely optional, no student is forced to participate. However, for any who may be bored with nothing to do during a Friday Viking time, there may be a club that looks interesting enough for them to give it a shot.
