No two clubs are the same; every club specializes in something different. Every club has its own purpose. For some, like chess or gaming clubs, they are designed to entertain attendees. Others, like the debate club, are more competitive. And for some, the primary purpose is to educate. While those who participate can still have fun in these clubs, they also try to teach something.
Some clubs, like DECA, try to teach principles that will help students after high school. “The best way to explain it is it prepares you for what a real world business kind of style career looks like,” senior Joshua Anderson, president of DECA said.” So, it prepares you in terms of marketing.”
For a similarly themed club, the Stock Trading Club is also an option. Taking place on C rotations, this club is for students who would be interested in learning more about the economy, regardless of how knowledgeable you are on the subject matter.
Sometimes clubs take a direct approach and try teaching a certain subject through experiencing what it’s actually like to participate in it. Clubs like the Engineering Club, sponsored by Adam Wilburn, offer hands-on projects for students to work on and complete.
Clubs can have different purposes and for those who are interested in learning specific skills or fields, these clubs may be for them.
