Loudoun Valley High School’s volleyball team is showcasing not just talent but also a special family connection this season, thanks to senior Payton Mandichak and her freshman sister Tenley Mandichak. Their unique dynamic on the court is drawing attention and inspiring teammates, as the sisters balance the challenges of high school sports together.
Payton Mandichak, now a senior, enjoys the opportunity to play alongside her little sister Tenley on the Varsity team. “ It’s pretty fun to have my little sister on the team as a senior,” Payton said. She finds it rewarding to support Tenley during games, especially when her sister faces challenges. “ Whenever she’s struggling, it’s a lot easier to help her because she’s familiar, and I just give her advice from what I’ve been through these last four years.”
For Tenley, being a freshman on a team filled with upperclassmen is a big adjustment. “ It’s definitely nerve racking to be a freshman playing with upperclassmen,” she admitted. Still, having Payton nearby provides a steady source of encouragement and guidance. Their bond strengthens not only their individual games but also the overall teamwork of Loudoun Valley’s volleyball team. Their shared dedication and support demonstrate how family connections can elevate the spirit and success of a team.
As the season progresses, both Payton and Tenley continue to grow as athletes and teammates, showing that a combination of experience and fresh energy can be a powerful force. Their story is a testament to how family ties can enhance performance and create lasting memories in the world of high school athletics.
