New Zealander singer Lorde released her new album, “Virgin,” this past summer and now is performing in cities scattered across the world in her “Ultrasound World Tour.”
Students had the opportunity to see this new era in Lorde’s life when the tour took a stop at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 4.
In this next chapter of Lorde’s career, she spreads the message that life can be scary, but it’s important to focus on the exciting parts.
“Lorde was trying to convey that life isn’t as serious as it seems,” sophomore Grace Lafon said. “The concert was really fun, and everyone was so happy.”
Not only does Lorde want her fans to look on the bright side of life, but she also believes in self identity and showing your true colors. While she is a singer and performer, she may also be an inspiration to many.
“She was kind of conveying that you should be yourself because she would talk about it in between her songs, how you should just be who you are,” sophomore Poet Lussier said.
Lorde spreads this message by creating an interactive show for the audience. Many special and unique things she does makes the concert stand out from other artist
“It was just kind of cool how all the lights made the effects more dark, and then she did like a bunch of more things to make it interactive for the fans,” Lusier said. “She had a treadmill on the stage, and she just started running on it in the middle of the song while she was singing, which was really cool.”
The most engaging part with the audience and Lorde was when she walked through the crowd during her song “David,” which expresses themes of self discovery and belonging.
“My favorite part was when she came out with a light jacket on that was glowing,” Lussier said. “She was walking through the crowd, so you could kind of see her, and she got really close to me.”
While Lorde fans praise her for the themes in this new era and her self confidence, critics find many issues with her outfits. Some don’t like them because Lorde challenges gender identity by wearing men’s clothing.
“I liked her outfits,” Lussier said. “I think they were really unique to her.”
Lorde has always been nostalgic and free. Her new era inspires her fans to do just that, but most importantly to be themselves.
Lorde’s new album is a reflection of her state of life right now. She is trying to find her identity and who she is. While she is processing this, her lyrics and melodies help her fans search for themselves as well.
The Ultrasound World Tour is a direct representation of living with no restrictions and being oneself.
