Apple recently announced the new release of the new MacBook Neo. It’s currently available for preorder. What shocked everyone was the price of the computer compared to their other MacBooks like the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. It’s $499 for education and $599 regular price. This is half the price of their other computers. But because it is half the price, it also has half the power and features. This created controversy whether students should get the Neo or the Air.
Sophomore Isabella Stubbs said the Neo was perfect considering the fact high schoolers do not need all the advanced features and only need to do basic daily tasks.
“As students, we don’t even need to pay $1000 for all the features the MacBook Air gives us,” Stubbs said. “Not to mention, we are kids who don’t have money, and we also might not want to ask our parents to drop $1000 on a second computer.”
However, other students, like junior Mila Garcia loved the Neo simply because they really loved the colors.
“I was in genuine awe when I saw that Apple was releasing a blush pink computer for an insane price,” Garcia said. “It’s so pretty and is definitely a computer I will be buying. Citrus was something I wasn’t expecting either.”
Although students like Stubbs and Garcia like the MacBook Neo because it is a suitable option for them and they appreciate the colors and aesthetics that Apple made, students like sophomore Hilda Crespin disagree. Crespin believes investing $1000 in the MacBook Air or the MacBook Pro is a better option.
“It’s a waste of money to get the MacBook Neo,” Crespin said. “People care about the amount of money and how it’s cheap, but that’s the problem. The MacBook uses an iPhone chip. The computer’s performance will not be as strong. Not to mention, the starting storage is 256 GB.”
Even though there is controversy whether to buy the Neo or to invest in one of Apple’s laptops, it’s important to choose what computer fits your needs.
“Everyone has different needs and preferences,” junior Shravya Kachibhotla said. “So, different people will want different things. It just depends on you.”
